Do I need a license to charter a sailboat?
All boaters from Canada are now required to carry a Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC), so please ensure you have one and bring it along on your charter. Non-residents may demonstrate proof of competency by providing proof of competency from their own country or by completing a Rental Boat Safety Check List. This checklist will be provided by Ahoy Rentals and will be reviewed with you when we do the check out of the boat at the start of your charter. Let us know at the time of booking if you require this checklist.

What kind of experience and qualifications are required to book a Bareboat Sailing Charter?
We look for experienced sailors that have either owned or chartered a keelboat in the past. Knowledge of charts, ability to identify your location at any given time and plot a course. Understanding aids to navigation. VHF Marine Radio operation, you must know how to hail the Coast Guard should you require assistance. Boat Handling, you must be able to safely operate a boat of the size you wish to charter and can safely leave and arrive at a dock. If you have not chartered or owned a boat in the past, but have completed a CYA or other designated sailing course, this may be sufficient, so please contact us by phone or e-mail and we can discuss options with you.
When does the charter start and finish?
Weeklong charters aboard the C&C 30 “Tankard” and the Tanzer 26 “Pommie Bee” run from Saturday morning from as early as 8am until 4pm the following Friday during high season (3rd week of June till after Labour Day Weekend). Day, weekend and weeklong charters at any other times are flexible, so contact us for availability.
Can we board the boat the night before?
Yes, the boat will be available after 6pm, so let us know at the time of booking. There is no extra charge for this service.
What is included in the charter rate?
Taxes and pump out are included, however fuel is extra. Please go to the gas dock, fuel up the boat and empty the holding tank before returning the boat to the slip.
Are we permitted to go to the United States with the boat?
Yes, as long as you have proper documentation. Please visit this website:
The C&C30 has a Customs Decal that will allow entry of this boat to the US.
Are Lifejackets provided?
We provide 6 adult lifejackets. If you need more let us know or if you require jackets for children under 90 lbs let us know numbers and weight of each.
I have not cruised in this area before, can I get some help with itinerary planning?
Absolutely, we often assist our customers with this during checkout by going over the charts and highlighting anchorages and safe routes depending on crew and weather conditions. You may also go to our “Useful Links” page and visit the last 2 links. You can purchase a PORTS book for the region before your trip (one will be on the boat).
Are there many places to dock and anchor in the area?
There are many docks and anchorages among the St. Lawrence National Park Islands. You cannot reserve any of these docks ahead of time. They operate on a “first come first serve” basis, so we recommend you plan to arrive at your desired Island by 3pm. The Islands provide many protected anchorages for the night. There are also numerous marinas in the area. There is a PORTS guide aboard each boat, which serves as a boaters travel guide. We will be more than happy to review any of these spots with you during our check out of the boat.
